Made it "mine" Monday #2

This is my second Monday Made it. I am loving Mondays, at least for a few more weeks.

Project #1: Birthday Bags

The supplies: mini sacks (Hobby Lobby), M & M Fun Size, bookmarks, and mini erasers (Wal-Mart)
I'd still like to add a homework pass.

I printed "It's Your Birthday" pencil flags from Sunny Days in Second Grade. I decided to use them on the bags, then I can write my student's names on the side. I included my drink to show you these are mini gift bags.
BTW...my drink could be included as a Monday Made It. I start with crushed ice, fill 3/4 of the glass with Diet Mountain Dew, then finish with Crystal Light Fruit Punch. It is quite addicting!

 Project #2: Boggle
Original idea from Create*Teach*Share
My Boggle title letters are backed on lime green, then navy. Although it is hard to tell in the picture.

I made my Boggle letters and backed them on lime green cardstock.
I think I will put 16 navy squares up permanently, then use velcro to switch out the letters on my bulletin board. I need to get into my classroom, so I can visualize this better. It is killing me that we can't get in until August 6th.

Project # 3: Box Top Container

I am super competitive! I've been saving since last year's contest ended and I've already filled the container.
As soon as I finish the next Crystal Light container, it will become a "Labels for Education" collector.

Other random stuff:

I need access to our school laminator. I have a bunch of other stuff ready. This is just an example of two. I've printed off "Brain Breaks" cards, "Classroom Cheers" cards, "Quiet Spray" and "Quiet Critters".

Finally, Home"made" it mine...

I've made this twice already. It is my new favorite chicken recipe. I serve it over egg noodles, instead of rice. How I make it mine is after I pull it out of the oven, I remove the chicken and thicken the sauce with cornstarch, then add the chicken back in. Otherwise, the sauce is very runny. Delicious!

ABC's of Me

Loving reading all about my favorite bloggers on Step into 2nd grade. Since I am new to blogging, I thought I would play along, so you could get to know me.

A - Age - 42

B - Bed size - King - My 3 cats let me share it with them.

C - Car - Ford Fusion, but my dream car is a Ford Mustang.

D - Dogs & Cats - I love both. Skooter, my 3 year old terrier mix and 3 cats, Skunky & Skittles (aka the gray girls) and Skipper (my big orange boy). All of the cats are 5. Don't ask!

E - Essential to start my day - Diet Mountain Dew. I've never been a coffee drinker. I discourage my students from bringing me anything from Starbucks. If they do, I buy hot chocolate before church in the winter.

F - Favorite color - kelly green, navy blue or pastel pink

G - Gold or silver - SILVER or chrome!

H - Height - 5' 8" (Please don't let W be weight!)

I - Ice Cream - Pass! Not a fan!

J - Job Title - Teacher/ Tech Liaison

K - Kids - My step-daughter, Tiffany. She is 26 and the Director of Volunteers at the Houston SPCA. If you watch "The Little People" on TLC, she was on the HSPCA bus that visited their pet store grand opening. Yes, I am a proud "bonus" mommy.

L - Live - TEXAS! I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could.

M - Married to Chris for 16 years.

N - Nickname - Kiki  Thanks to my little brother!

O - Other quirks - I can't stand nail polish on my fingernails, but don't mind it on my toenails.

P - Pet peeves - Lately, it has been people who don't use their turn signal.

Q - Quote from a movie - "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."  Anyone? Anyone? ... Ferris Bueller's Day Off   I <3 John Hughes 80's movies!!!

R - Righty or Lefty - Right isn't wrong!

S - Siblings - One brother (16 months younger)

T - Television - Ours is on almost 24/7, whether we are watching it or not. Since it is summer, it is "Big Brother".

U - Unknown fact - I've been working since I was 10. My 1st job was delivering newspapers. Can you say "workaholic"? That said, I am looking forward to retirement, but I'm not sure it will actually ever happen.

V - Vegetables - Only raw, not a cooked fan. They are too mushy.

W - What makes me run late? - My husband. Sorry, Chris!

X - X-rays - Lungs. I got pneumonia twice as a kid. I remember the doctor taking chest x-rays.

Y - Yummiest food - Macaroni & cheese  The blue box rocks!!!

Z - Zoo animal - NOT the snakes! I always avoided the snake house. It was dark! It was creepy! There
were snakes with those forked tongues!

Now you know my ABC's! Next time won't you link up with me! : )

Friday Finds

OK! I don't know that I can limit myself to just one fabulous find. Like most everyone else, I've been making the rounds to Target, Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart. Here is what I've found.

Dollar Tree.
I love the square ribbon basket. It was actually 2 for $1. I plan to put my stress balls in it. I am still stalking Target for the lightbulb and globe squeeze toys.

Hobby Lobby.
I love ribbon almost as much as I love polka dots. I found the bottom one on clearance for 59 cents.

Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart
The locker caddies and book covers were on clearance at Wal-Mart for 50 cents earlier this summer.
I plan to try to use the book covers as book bags on the back of my student's chairs.
The Beverly Hillbillies DVD is for indoor recess. Unfortunately, we have to show videos during indoor recess, because of the way our classrooms are arranged and the number of kids we have to cover.

I love the clearance aisles. The polka dot tablecloth was $2, the two silver buckets were $1, and the metal sign was 75 cents. I also hit the school supply aisle and bought 2 of the index card boxes, magnetic words and bookmarks. Every year I buy a new set of colorful pens. This year they are Zebra clickers.

Hope you have as much fun shopping for BTS as I do!
Check back Monday to see what I've made this week!
Have a great weekend!

New Blog Design (Super Excited!)

I am super excited about my new blog design. I love polka dots and free things, so when I saw this "Just Right" design on The Cutest Blog on the Block site, I knew it was just right.

Next I found the banner. The brown doesn't match, but I shrunk it a bit and added a white border to separate it from the background brown. I, also, added my title and a new subtitle. (I have been in 4th grade the majority of my 20 year career, so it does seem like forever.)

Finally, I found a chocolate brown set of tab titles.

I know I still have a lot to learn, but now I can feel proud of my blog and not embarrassed to link it or pin it. Speaking of pinning, I am off to figure out how to add the "Follow Me on Pinterest" button. Happy blogging!

Made It "Mine" Monday!

All summer I've been stalking Tara's Made It Monday linky party. I've been making many of the items "mine".  Finally, I decided I needed to "make" a blog. This is my first post.

Using p. 5 & 6 from the Big Dot Daily Binder from Cait at Sliding into 1st, I cut out the center of the frames, then I chose a font and matching colors to print my titles. Finally, I backed them with either navy or brown cardstock. After I took the picture and posted it in on Facebook, I realized I couldn't see the i in information and it should be s' on students' success. Ugh! My cat, Skittles, doesn't mind.

I love Pinterest. This summer I got "pinspiration" from Tara's "Believe" sign from Fourth Grade Frolics and the "Mrs. Ashley" sign. I used my circle stencil to trace some polka dots, chose a font I liked and printed out "masterpieces", so that it would fit on my canvas, picked out colors that match my classroom, then started painting. I finished the sides with ribbon. I am still debating if I will hang it with ribbon or just some Command hooks. Either way it will make an ugly corner of my classroom much cuter. Hopefully my students will create lots of "masterpieces" to display under it.

My "Pick Me" pot is almost complete. My circles are cut. My popsicle stick "stems" are painted green. I am waiting until I can get back in to school to get my numbers laminated. I'm not a big fan of the color,  yellow, but when I saw this cute polka dot pot on sale at Hobby Lobby, I couldn't resist. Thank  you to A Cupcake for the Teacher for this great classroom management idea.

I've always had my students use a composition book as a journal. This year I want to try to make them more interactive, hence the iRead and iWrite notebook. I am still trying to decide what will go in it, but I've gotten a lot of good ideas from Pinterest. If you look closely, you will see I did add a ribbon bookmark with a white button at the bottom. My other white buttons were used in the next project. If you are wondering why I made two, I am departmentalized and decided to have separate notebooks for each class.

Not everything I've made this summer has been or school. I fell in love with this button snowflake and knew I had to make one. The hardest part was finding enough matching white buttons.

In June, my husband and I celebrated our 16th anniversary. He is more romantic and sentimental than I am, so I made him a deck of cards with 52 reasons why I love him. He was very appreciative.

Finally, my last two projects were for the Fourth of July.
The America banner is a free printable from At Second Street.

This is my pinspiration wreath. The original idea was from Naptime Crafts

Ok, I think I am caught up now. I love "Made It Mondays"! I will miss them when school starts.
