Giveaway + Crazy BUSY!!!

You're probably wondering why I am posting about a THIRD grade giveaway. Well...#1 I LOVE winning and I've been a roll recently. #2 Tracy has a cute website with a lot of good ideas. This is not the first time I've visited her site. #3 One of the prizes is a blog template from Megan. I'd really like to replace my "free"/ semi-homemade blog design.

Wednesday of Week 4 - FIELD TRIP (already) YES! We take our students to our local YMCA for a fun day. This is supposed to hype them up to work hard the rest of the year to "earn" the spring fun day.

Thursday and Friday of Week 4 - TRAINING  Ok! I chose to go to this training. It was optional. In retrospect, it was not the best time to be out for two days. Progress report cards are due Friday at noon. Do you see my dilemma?

BTW...I am getting a "new" student tomorrow as well.

I think I will be spelling stressed backwards tomorrow!

Pilot

Inspired by Farley @ Oh Boy Fourth Grade and her box of free BIC products, I wrote Pilot. I LOVE (in all capitals) their G2 and Precise V5 pens, so I told them. I asked if they needed any teachers to test their products. Sadly, they don't, but they did send...

Butt Puff and the Electric Volcano

4th graders are funny! Those of you who teach 4th graders already know this.

12 years later, I still crack up every time I think about "butt puff". It was an ordinary day. The class was doing their D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language) corrections. Dan (I've changed his name to protect his dignity.) came up to me very seriously and asked "Mrs. B., why would someone name their cat, Butt Putt?" I did a double take. "Huh?" "In the sentence, why would they name their cat, Butt Puff?" I, not very professionally,  busted out laughing. You see the sentence actually read, But Puff my cat won't eat fish. The commas were missing, and the students were supposed to add them.

Now, I have a new one. I was doing BOY (beginning of the year) testing of my students. We have to do a fluency probe, a DRA reading level, and QPS. One of the tasks on the QPS is to evaluate 3 syllable words. There are ten words total. "Electric" and "volcano" are two of them. The other day, I was testing J.J. He was reading the list of words, kind of struggling, but when he got to electric and volcano. He flew across both of them. In fact, he said them together, then he just giggled. He looked up at me kind of surprised and said "Electric volcano? Can you imagine an electric volcano?" He was so funny that he made me laugh, too.

Ok...maybe it is just me, but I love 4th grade humor!

Elmer's Glue & Teacher Wish Lists ROCK!!!

Monday morning...I am not feeling great, probably a back-to-school sinus infection. Then our custodian walks in with two HUGE boxes addressed to ME. It was from Elmers and Teacher Wish Lists. They sent 2 packs of Bounty paper towels, several packages of Wet Ones individual wipes, Mr. Clean Magic erasers, Puffs tissues, 12 sets of plastic dividers, and 96 glue sticks PLUS a banner that says "Our School Rocks!" I still don't feel well, but this lifted my spirits today.

All they asked for in return was a picture. My partner snapped this one.

I <3 Elmers!!!

Monday Made It & Currently September edition

Last week was the first week of school with the kids. It was BIZEEEEE! In fact, it was so BIZEEEE, that I didn't take pictures the first day. Fortunately, I saw an idea for celebrating the "4th day of Fourth Grade" somewhere in blogland this summer. Sweet! Here is what I did.
These are the two kids that showed the most personality. Most of the kids just held the sign and starred at me like I was torturing them.
I had intentions of printing a cute sign from the "How Did She?" blog, but my printer was acting up, and I just never made it to the library to use the color printer. My solution: I typed my saying in a cute font, trimmed it down on my paper cutter, glued it to a piece of bright copy paper, taped it using Mavalus tape to a paint stirrer. DONE and DONE!

Head over to 4th Grade Frolics and check out what 4th Grade Goddess, Tara and the other bloggers are making.

One of my other favorite blogs...
